If you want to replace missing teeth, or fix a broken tooth, you will want to come and visit us at My Creative Dentist. For over 40 years, Drs. Masis Yeterian and Richard Greenberg have been serving the oral health care needs of the Greenwich community. More and more, we find that patients come to us requesting dental implants in Old Greenwich.
There are many ways that dentists can replace missing or broken teeth for patients. These procedures involve: crowns; bridges and dentures and dental implants in Old Greenwich. Each procedure has its own benefits to the patient. If you have teeth in need of being replaced, we can help you determine which is the best option to take. Bridges and dentures are probably the most cost effective solution. A bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth. It in effect “bridges the gap” created by the missing tooth. A bridge can be either fixed or removable. A fixed bridge will stay in your mouth, and is kept in place by natural teeth. Partial and full dentures are removed from the mouth several times a day; they rest on the gum. Dental implants in Old Greenwich provide a way to hold removable dentures. One of our doctors will be happy to speak to you about this option.
One of the most popular solutions for missing teeth today is dental implants. They are the closest thing you can have to replacing a missing tooth. An implant is made of a top, porcelain piece, and a root, titanium piece. The titanium implant is surgically inserted into the jaw bone. Beforehand, a determination needs to be made if the jaw bone and gums are healthy enough to hold the implant. There is also a medical clearance required. Once our patient is deemed to be a good candidate for the surgery, the titanium implant is inserted and then it must fuse to the jaw bone over the coming weeks. Once this happens, the permanent porcelain crown can be cemented to the implant. The resulting tooth will function as well, or even better than the original tooth. You will be able to eat anything you desire, and your speech will be totally unaffected. You will not even realize that you have a dental implant – they are that comfortable. So if you want dental implants in Old Greenwich, or another tooth replacement solution, contact our office to see what our dentists recommend as the best way to replace your missing teeth.
Supported by and attached to your dental implants, an implant-supported denture is a type of over-denture. A traditional denture rests on your gums, and is not supported by implants. Our Old Greenwich general dentist will use dental implant supported dentures when a person doesn’t have any teeth in their jaw, but has enough bone in the jaw to support implants. A dental implant supported denture has special attachments that snap onto attachments on the implants. Usually made for the lower jaw, implant-supported dentures work much better there since regular dentures tend to be less stable in the lower jaw area. Normally, a regular denture made to fit an upper jaw is very stable by itself, and doesn’t need the extra support offered by implants. You can, however, get a dental implant supported denture in either the upper or lower jaw.
Tooth Replacements Old Greenwich
There are two types of dental implant supported dentures: ball-retained and bar-retained. In both cases, your denture will be made of an acrylic base that will look like gums. Acrylic or porcelain teeth that look like natural teeth are attached to the acrylic base. Both types of dentures require at least two implants for support. With ball-retained dentures, each implant in the jawbone holds a metal attachment that fits into another attachment on the denture. In most cases, the attachments on the implants are ball-shaped, and they fit into sockets on the denture. Bar-retained dentures have a thin metal bar that follows the curve of your jaw, and is attached to two to five implants that have been placed in your jawbone. Clips, or some other type of attachments, are fitted to the bar, the denture or both. The denture fits over the bar and is clipped securely into place by the attachments.
Our Old Greenwich general dentist recommends that you remove an implant-supported denture daily to clean the denture as well as the gum area. Just as with regular dentures, you should never sleep with the implant-supported dentures at night. We do have some patients at My Creative Dentist who do prefer to have fixed (permanent) crown and bridgework in their mouths that can’t be removed. We certainly take your particular needs and preferences into consideration when suggesting fixed or removable options.

Porcelain Veneers Greenwich
This is also a great opportunity to ask our Greenwich cosmetic dentist any questions that you have about porcelain veneers. Once it has been decided that you are going to go through with the procedure, we will begin the process of fabricating your veneers so that they fit perfectly to your mouth and look completely natural. The veneers themselves are small strips of porcelain that are shaped and attached to your original teeth in order to give the look of a more perfect smile. Once your veneers are attached, you will be amazed at the drastic change that has taken place. Your new veneers will be very easy to take care of. They are stain resistant and should last at least one year if not longer.
